I bought this bed in twin size (at an Ikea store in Canada) so my review will be focusing on the TWIN size version of this bed (same bed, just smaller). This is one solid little bed and I’m no small lady! I bought it for myself to sleep on (it’s not child size although it can be used for a child’s room). This bed holds up well (no squeaks, creaks or cracks and I’ve had it almost a year). It has a metal cross-bar for support and metal slats along the sides to hold the box spring. You can purchase the Ikea slatted wood base to replace the box spring and place the mattress on top of the slatted wood base (that’s what I did). Its natural, pale blonde wood can be stained, varnished or painted (I would suggest varnishing it to harden the wood – this is made from soft, pine wood – and prevent any accidental spills/stains that might discolor the wood). I sanded then stained mine in a nice chestnut brown and then varnished it – turned out beautifully and looks like a cozy, country-style bed! It’s easy to assemble, light weight so it’s easy to move, doesn’t take up too much room and looks good. An inexpensive, practical and well-made bed. I would suggest this bed to anyone who is on a tight budget (79$ TWIN SIZE at Ikea/99$ with the slatted wood base) and wants a good bed that will last.
UPDATE: It’s been two years since this review and the bed is still going strong!

This bed is really cute and was easy to put together. It is very sturdy and overall, I really like it. I wish it had specified that it does not come with wooden slats for across the bed. It does come with a center support and these really flimsy metal things. I was not happy about that as I though this was a platform bed that did not require box springs. I did have a box springs for the mattress that this bed was purchased for so I just put that on along with the mattress and it works great. You could also buy some slats if you did want to make it a platform bed.

Its affordable and usable. I bought this for short term use while I’m at college, and I feel that its sturdy enough to use for a few years. I’m giving it a three star because the bars on the headboard are difficult to manage.. they are connected to the two vertical side bars and the middle bar via wooden plugs that are hammered and as a result they often pop out. It makes it really difficult to move the bed across carpeting since the headboard will completely fall apart. I HIGHLY suggest anyone buying this bed frame to use some gorilla glue/wood glue/krazy glue to permanently attach the bars to at least the vertical bar in the middle of the headboard, and also to the side bars if you do not plan on taking this bed apart in the future. I only recommend this bed to anyone who just needs a cheap/disposable bed for short term use. Its really annoying having to hammer the headboard back together every couple of months.
TLDR: the bed is sturdy and usable as long as you put it together well and you don’t put too much force on it. Do not purchase this if you’re going to use it for a really long time because no matter how much glue you use it will fall apart occasionally.

This kit doesn’t include the “skorva midbeam” which is essential to use it safely.

First, there is something that needs to be cleared up. IKEA makes some beds that have wooden ledges for the slats to sit on, and other beds that have metal ledges for the slats to sit on (and metal connector pieces between the sides to prevent warping). The beds with the wooden ledges tend to be awful, and experience problems with slats falling once the sides begin to warp. The beds with the metal ledges are rock-solid, and will hold up over time and be able to withstand vigorous activity on the bed.
This is a Tarva, it has metal rails for the slats to sit on. There is a very close look-alike bed called the Fjellse, which has wooden rails for the slats to sit on. Most of the time, if you see someone write a negative review about slats falling with a Tarva, they actually have a Fjellse. This worried me a lot, to the point I almost didn’t buy a Tarva — but now that I have, I’m very glad I did. This thing is rock solid, and having observed its engineering when I assembled it, I expect it to hold up for a long time.

Garbage. Like all IKEA things once it’s together there is no disassembling it without it splintering and breaking. Plan on getting a new bed frame when you move.
